UWM Announces Rick Costello Leaving Position As Athletic Director

April 23, 2012

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee today announced that Rick Costello has chosen to leave his position as Athletic Director.

"I have had the opportunity to work with amazing students, coaches, faculty and staff," Costello said. "I have enjoyed my time at UWM. This is a great university and I wish everyone here well."

UWM Chancellor Michael R. Lovell said, "We thank Rick for his service and wish him the best as he pursues new opportunities. He is a hard-working, dedicated professional. With his many talents, I am certain he will do well in the future."

Lovell noted the academic and athletic excellence over the past year and the success Costello had in fundraising, corporate sponsorships and ticket sales for the program.

Lovell said the change in leadership will not affect the university's commitment to maintaining a strong NCAA Division I program.

"Our student athletes and our coaches have had remarkable success in Horizon League competition as well as in the classroom. Going forward, we will build on that success by continuing to invest in our people and programs."

The university is considering how to fill the position of Athletic Director and will provide further information on that process in the near future.
