MILWAUKEE - Shelby Schaal and Sam Koenig have been named the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee/U.S. Army ROTC Athletes of the Month for April.

Schaal had a record-setting month on the heptathlon for the Panther track and field team while Koenig was a standout at the plate for the UWM baseball team.

Schaal broke the school record in the heptathlon with an outstanding score of 5,063 points in winning the event at the storied Kansas Relays. She posted season-best times in both the 200m (26.10) and the 100m hurdles (14.57) during that record-breaking performance in Kansas. The senior also tallied three other top-10 finishes during the month.

Koenig hit a stellar .475 in the month, collecting 28 hits in 59 at bats. He had nine doubles and a home run, scoring 13 runs while driving in 12. He also posted a .661 slugging percentage and .537 on-base percentage during April as the Panthers won 10 games.

Both of this month's winners are also standouts in the classroom. Schaal has a 3.605 cumulative grade-point average while Koenig has a 3.82 GPA.
