Athletics Again A Big Part Of UWM Day At The State Fair
Aug. 4, 2012 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Athletic Department will again be a big part of tomorrow's UWM Day at the Wisconsin State Fair. The Panther-centric events take place at the fair's Central Park (across from the Original Cream Puff Pavilion) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Members of the women's soccer team (11 a.m.), men's soccer team (noon), women's volleyball team (1 p.m.) and men's basketball team (2 p.m.) will demonstrate and share their skills during the day in the area, while UWM cheerleaders will be on hand all day long. Fans can also have their picture taken with Pounce and enter drawings for Panther men's and women's basketball season tickets. The entire University gets involved in the day's events. Other events during the day include Pounce leading the special "Roar like a Panther" contest. At 4:30 p.m., age groups 9-12 years, 6-8 years and five and under will compete for free Brewers tickets. The contest is sponsored by the UWM Alumni Association and will be emceed by former women's basketball coach Sandy Botham. There will also be live entertainment, trivia contests with great prizes and kids' games sponsored by WUWM Radio. Plus, the School of Continuing Education hosts Panther face painting and a palm reader. Friends of the Golda Meir Library will be on hand to distribute free bookmarks and hand out membership info. Those wanting to show their Panther Pride should arrive early as the first 6,000 visitors to the UWM area will receive a Panther Paw fan and the first 1,000 to the area will get a UWM sling bags handed out to the first 1,000 visitors. |
