MILWAUKEE - Senior Doug Dekoning of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.

Dekoning earns the first league batter of the week accolade of his career after an impressive showing in the opening series of the 2011 campaign.

He batted a team-high .500 in the three contests against the University of Tennessee, going 6-for-12 in posting multi-hit efforts each day. In addition to a double, a run scored and four runs batted in, Dekoning had a .583 slugging percentage and .571 on-base percentage, fielding his position with no errors and one assist in nine chances from his position in center field.

Dekoning is now eligible for the Horizon League Network's "People's Choice" award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon. Log on to www.HorizonLeague.com to vote. The Panthers are back in action this weekend, taking part in the Austin Peay Classic Saturday and Sunday.
