Tassi Honored As Horizon League Pitcher Of The Week
Feb. 27, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Junior Cale Tassi of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
Despite his second-straight no-decision on the season, Tassi is off to the best statistical start of any starting pitcher in the Horizon League. The weekly award is the first of his career.
This week, on the road against Minnesota, Tassi pitched into the eighth inning of a 1-1 game, allowing just a solo unearned run in his outing. He left with the contest deadlocked after walking just one and striking out seven in a game that UWM would eventually go on to win, 3-1, in 10 innings.
That improved his ERA on the season to a league-leading 0.68, having given up just one earned run in 13.1 innings so far in 2012. Those stats cover two starts, as he also left a game up, 3-1, against No. 22 East Carolina last week before the Pirates mounted a late comeback.
