Hoenecke Earns Horizon League Player Of The Week Honors
March 8, 2010
MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Paul Hoenecke of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been chosen as the Horizon League Player of the Week, the league office announced late Monday. The weekly honor is the first of his career. Hoenecke had a phenomenal week at the plate, batting .643 (9-for-14) in leading the Panthers to a 4-1 record. In five games, he scored seven runs, drove in nine, had an on-base percentage of .667 and a 1.286 slugging percentage. His nine hits included six doubles and a home run and he did not strike out in 21 plate appearances. He started the week with a 3-for-3, three RBI effort in a win at Minnesota and capped it with a 3-for-3 game against SIU Edwardsville Saturday when he drove in a career-best five runs. Hoenecke and Wright State's Alex Kaminsky, the league pitcher of the week, will become eligible for the Horizon League Network's "People's Choice" award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon.
