Peterson Named Horizon League Pitcher Of The Week
April 21, 2014
MILWAUKEE - Cody Peterson of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced this morning.
The honor is a career-first for the junior right-hander.
Peterson came five outs away from the first no-hitter in Milwaukee program history, settling for a one-hit, complete-game shutout of Valparaiso University in a 3-0 win Friday.
He walked just one batter - which came in the ninth - and set a season-high with eight strikeouts. After a hit by pitch in the second inning, he retired 17 batters in a row and was closing in on the no-hitter before an infield single with one out in the eighth inning broke it up.
He shared the league award with Valpo's Cole Webb, who snapped the Panthers 20-game home winning streak Thursday with a complete-game two-hitter.
UWM returns to action with five games this week, beginning tomorrow with a non-league matchup against Parkside at Simmons Field in Kenosha.
