Hoenecke, Tassi Honored With Horizon League Weekly Baseball Awards
April 23, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Senior Paul Hoenecke and junior Cale Tassi have been honored as the Horizon League Batter and Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today. The award is the second of Hoenecke's career and also the second for Tassi, who was previously honored in February of this season. He did share the award this week with Valparaiso's Kevin Wild. Hoenecke batted .500 (8-for-16) the past week, helping Milwaukee to a 3-1 record in four games, including a sweep of Youngstown State on the weekend. He had at least one hit in every game, finishing the week with back-to-back three hit contests against YSU. In Saturday's opener, he drove in two runs in the 3-2 victory. Then, in game two of the doubleheader, his first-inning home run helped jump-start UWM's 8-1 win. He slugged .750, had an on-base percentage of .556, scored four runs and drove in four. Tassi earned the award with a strong outing against the Penguins. He worked 7.0 innings, allowing just one run (which was unearned) in lowering his league-leading ERA to 2.55. He walked just one batter and set a career-high with 10 strikeouts.
