Aug. 19, 2014
MILWAUKEE - Kyle Kelm and Thierno Niang, recent graduates of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team, will be continuing their basketball careers overseas.
Kelm, the second-leading scorer for last year's Horizon League Tournament Champion Panthers, signed with the Bascharage Hedgehogs based in Luxembourg.
Last year, Kelm had a strong senior campaign at UWM. The 6-9 forward was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team and had a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds in the league tournament championship, sending Milwaukee to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, Kelm averaged 12.5 points and 5.1 rebounds his senior year.
Meanwhile, Niang has been added the Senegal National Team in advance of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This year's FIBA World Cup will be hosted by Spain, with the winning country earning an automatic berth to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Niang played for Milwaukee for two injury-plagued seasons. The 6-1 guard played in 33 games for Milwaukee over the past two seasons, making 10 starts.
