UWM Men's Basketball Adds Game to Schedule
Sept. 28, 1999
MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has added Bethune-Cookman to its 1999-00 men's basketball schedule athletics director Bud Haidet announced today. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the J. Martin Klotsche Center on the UWM campus. The game is part of a home-away series that will conclude next season when the Panthers travel to Florida.
The addition of Bethune-Cookman, a team coached by former Georgetown great Horace Broadnax, will strengthen what is arguably by far the toughest non-conference schedule in the MCC-a schedule that includes NCAA tournament teams Cincinnati, Utah and Wisconsin. Both Utah and Cincinnati advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament and ended the year ranked No. 6 and No. 11 respectively in the AP poll. Wisconsin lost in the tournament's first round and ended the season at No.18.
"Adding competitive Division I teams like Bethune-Cookman to the schedule helps strengthen our non-conference schedule," said head coach Bo Ryan. "Our tough non-conference schedule will challenge this young Panther roster early in the season and give the players a realistic view of what it will take to move up in the extremely competitive MCC."
In another scheduling note, the Mount Senario home game originally scheduled for Nov. 30, 1999, will be played in the 2000-01 season.
The Panthers begin play on Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. with an exhibition game against Marathon Oil. The team opens its regular season at home against UW-Madison at 7 p.m. Single game tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 1. For ticket information, call the Panther ticket office at 414-229-5886.
