Heather Czappa is entering her sixth year as the Panthers' assistant coach after four years as a UWM letterwinner.

As a collegian, she was a two-time league champion and all-league selection in the 100 backstroke. Czappa was the school-record holder in the 200 backstroke and held the mark in the 100 backstroke until they were broken by current Panther junior Julie Olson. She was also a member of the school-record setting 200 and 400 medley relay teams. Czappa, who also coaches with Shorewood Swim Club, has been on the coaching staff for both the men's and women's league championship titles.

In 1999, Czappa graduated Summa Cum Laude from UWM after majoring in English with minors in psychology and mass communication. She was an eight-time member of the CSCAA Academic All-America Team and an eight-time Dean's List selection. Other academic honor include three selections to the league's all-academic team, three Faculty Representative's Awards for the highest grade point average on the UWM swimming & diving team, and two Academic Advisor's Awards for the highest grade point average of all UWM student-athletes. She was also named a CoSIDA District V All-American for her academic and athletic excellence, one of only about 60 student-athletes in the country to receive that honor.

After her freshman campaign, Czappa was named the UWM Rookie of the Year, and earned team MVP honors after her sophomore season.

The valedictorian of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, she set one conference, two sectional and 11 school records.

Czappa also serves as the equipment manager for the UWM athletic department.

She resides in Milwaukee.
