Kenosha, Wis. - Evan Green and Nathan Welchlin each won a pair of events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming team to a 113-92 win over Carthage College in Kenosha Saturday afternoon, just one day after returning from their 10-day training trip in Florida.

In all, the Panthers won all but two events on the day.

"It was an absolutely awesome meet," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements said. "I love being back in action right after getting back from our training trip. We didn't even get off the plane until 11 o'clock last night, so to be back in action right away today really challenges them and that's what we were looking for."

Green started things off well, winning the second individual race of the day by just beating teammates Mike Brady and Ryan Finke in the 200 freestyle. Later, Green touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly, winning the race by over five seconds.

Welchlin also had a strong showing Saturday, taking 400 IM in convincing fashion, finishing with a time of 4:04.73. He also cruised to a win in the 500 freestyle, reaching the wall in 4:38.78, nearly 20 seconds in front of the next scorer.

The Panthers won handily despite using a lineup made up almost entirely of freshmen and sophomores for the meet.

"I wanted to give the underclassmen a feel of, not what life without the seniors is like, but just to give them an idea of what it would be like and they handled it very well," Clements said. "Being mostly underclassmen, they did a really good job and I'm proud of their work today."

Sophomore Josh Kinney took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.14.

Other winners on the day include Cris Smith in the 1000 freestyle, Mike Schalla in the 50 freestyle and Mike Brady won the 100 freestyle.

The Panthers return to action next weekend as they head to the University of Chicago for a dual meet with the Maroons Saturday at 1 p.m.
