Men's Swimming Cruises To Another Win

MILWAUKEE - Eight different swimmers won individual events and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming team cruised to a 113-79 victory of Wheaton College at the Klotsche Natatorium Friday afternoon.

Jeff Maxwell, Kenny Stelpflug, Nic Halverson, David Dvorak, Ryan Finke, Nathan Welchlin, Chris Jenkyns and Joey Chokran all won individual races as Milwaukee won its third-straight dual meet.

After UWM kicked off the night with a win in the 400 medley relay by freshmen Halverson, Taylor Wisdorf, Erik Wahlgren and Tanner Nimke, the rest of the victories just kept piling up.

Maxwell touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:58.80, just beating out senior Mike Brady at 9:59.15.

Stelpflug won the 200 free in 1:45.21, just beating out teammates Tim Halverson (1:45.60) and J.J. Melville (1:48.04).

 

 

In the 400 IM, Nic Halverson won with a time of 4:10.10, over 10 seconds in front of the next competitor.

Senior David Dvorak had a strong swim in the 100 butterfly, posting a winning time of 53.19.

Finke won the 100 free at 48.60, Welchlin took the top spot in the 100 back in 52.64 seconds and Jenkyns took the top spot in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.53.

Chokran also recorded his first collegiate win with an impressive showing in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall first with a time of 1:01.92.

Milwaukee finished the meet strong with a win in the 200 free relay by Mike Schalla, Riley Spitzig, Stelpflug and Brady.

In all, UWM won 12 of the 13 events on the day.

The Panthers are right back at it on Saturday, hosting UIC at the Klotsche Natatorium at 1 p.m.
