Milwaukee Sweeps Horizon League Scholar-Athlete Awards

MILWAUKEE - Senior Ashley Hall and junior Jeremy Waldhart of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimming & diving teams have been named the female and male U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, the league office announced today. The honor is the first of the season for Hall after being selected a league-high three times a year ago. Waldhart, who was also honored as the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Month in November, is receiving the award for the third time this year and the fourth time in his UWM career. Hall won three of four diving events as the Milwaukee women won back-to-back meets over the weekend over the University of Chicago and Western Illinois. She won the three-meter and placed second in the one-meter Friday against Chicago, then captured both events Saturday versus WIU, including an NCAA Zone-qualifying score on the three-meter. A business major, Hall owns a 3.965 grade-point average at Milwaukee. She was voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team last season as well as the Academic All-Horizon League Team. Waldhart won four individual events and was part of a winning relay team in the Milwaukee men's dual-meet victories over the University of Chicago and Western Illinois University. He took top honors in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley Friday versus Chicago. Against WIU Saturday, he won the 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke and was part of the 200 medley relay team. His win in the 200 back also broke the Klotsche Natatorium record. In the classroom, Waldhart carries a 3.951 grade-point average as a business major at Milwaukee, where he has been named to the school's Dean's List each semester. He earned ESPN The Magazine All-District Second-Team honors last season. The Panthers close out the regular season at Green Bay Feb. 7.
