Men's Swimming Set For League Championships

MILWAUKEE - The 2012 Horizon League Championships are next on the schedule for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team. The event will take place at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis., starting Wednesday and concluding Saturday evening.

The following link will be updated all weekend and serve as the one page that will get you all of the information you will need for the 2012 Horizon League Championships.

The Black & Gold Network caught up with Milwaukee seniors Sky Boggio and Evan Green this week as the Panthers prepare to host the 2012 Horizon League Championships this week in Brown Deer. UWM has won back-to-back league crowns.

SCOUTING THE MEET:
Milwaukee heads to the Horizon League Championships as the defending champion. In fact, the Panthers have actually won the title the past two seasons, and have been crowned champion three times in school history (1999-2000, 2009-10, 2010-11).

UWM finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record in dual meets, including a 3-0 mark against league opponents. This was the second time in school history Milwaukee finished with an undefeated record, with the first coming in 1991-92.

Daily at 1:30 p.m.
Day 1 Finals: men's 3-meter
Day 2 Finals: women's 1-meter

Daily at 10 a.m. (Thur.- Sat.)
Swimming Finals:
Wednesday at 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Day 1 Finals: 200 Free Relay, 1000 Free, 200 Medley Relay
Day 2 Finals: 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 400 Medley Relay
Day 3 Finals: 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 800 Free Relay
Day 4 Finals: 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 400 Free Relay

LAST TIME IN THE POOL:
Milwaukee capped their undefeated season in convincing fashion, knocking off Green Bay, 184-59, in their final dual meet of the season at a packed Klotsche Natatorium.

Freshman K.J. Heger broke his own school record on the three-meter board, the team combined to post eight season-best times and the Panthers won every event on senior day to close out their regular-season action.

MAKING NOISE IN THE POLLS:
The most recent poll of the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Dual Meet Championship was released in mid-February and the men climbed up to No. 6, their highest ranking in program history. Milwaukee has 235.08 points and the only other Horizon League team in the poll is Cleveland State (No. 14).

LAST YEAR:
Milwaukee successfully defending its 2010 title with a repeat performance at the league meet last year. The Panthers overtook UIC on the final day and never looked back, winning back-to-back titles for the first time in program history.

Milwaukee ended the meet with 820 points to fend off UIC, which finished with 793. Cleveland State was third with 696, Wright State fourth with 491, Green Bay fifth with 481 and Valparaiso rounding out the standings in sixth with 117.

UP NEXT:
The Panthers' season will come to a close as a team, but any individual NCAA qualifiers will continue on.
