McClellan and Heger Honored By Horizon League
Oct. 17, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Junior Emily McClellan and sophomore K.J. Heger of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee have been named the Horizon League Swimmer and Diver of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon. Both earn the league honor for the fourth time in their Panther careers after just the first week of competition for UWM. McClellan burst off the blocks in the season-opener, winning the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM against Big Ten-foe Wisconsin. So far, her time of 1:02.70 in the 100 breast is the second-fastest in the nation, while her time of 2:16.79 in the 200 breast is fifth-fastest. Her mark of 2:05.84 in the 200 IM also ranks in the top-25 across the NCAA. McClellan also helped post a time of 3:49.96 in the 400 medley relay last Friday, good enough for second place at the meet. That time also is the fastest in the Horizon League thus far this season. Heger also had an impressive showing to kick off his sophomore campaign. The Rockford, Ill. native won both boards against the Badgers. His scores of 300.90 (one-meter) and 329.70 (three-meter) on Friday were both NCAA Zone scores, securing him a spot at the NCAA Zone qualifying dives later this season. The Panthers return to action this Friday, heading to Allendale, Mich. to take on Grand Valley State at 4 p.m.
