This Week In Milwaukee Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving

Friday, Oct. 26 • Wright State
Hosted by Milwaukee • Klotsche Natatorium • 5 p.m.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams have their first home meet of the season this weekend, taking on conference-foe Wright State Friday at the Klotsche Natatorium at 5 p.m. Both teams are looking to build off last week's strong showing in with wins over Grand Valley State at this week's annual Pink Out meet.

SCOUTING THE MEET
Milwaukee continues its annual battle with conference-rival Wright State this weekend. The Panthers have had quite a bit of success against the Raiders of late. The men's team has won the past three dual meets to draw the overall series between the teams even at 3-3.

Meanwhile, the Panther women are 4-2 all-time against WSU, also carrying a three-meet winning streak to Friday's action.

The Raiders enter the pool 3-1 overall on both sides, coming off a dual-meet lose to UIC two weeks ago.

PINK PANTHERS
Friday is the annual "Pink Out" meet for Milwaukee, where both men's and women's teams will sport pink uniforms and caps to help raise breast cancer awareness. Fans wearing pink to the event will be admitted for just $1.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL
Freshman Kelsey Abbas and junior Emily McClellan each won a pair of individual events and also combined on a relay to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team to 142-100 win over Grand Valley State at the Fieldhouse Pool Friday evening in Allendale, Mich.

Milwaukee won the first three events and 10 of the 13 events on the day en route to the team's first win of the season.

On the men's side, three freshmen won their events, sophomore Lee Anderson won both boards and Nathan Welchlin also posted a pair of wins as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team swam to a 153-89 win over Grand Valley State at the Fieldhouse Pool Friday evening in Allendale, Mich.

The Panthers lost the opening relay of the day but took 10 of the next twelve events and recorded a pool record on their way to their first win of the season.

OFF TO A FAST START
Milwaukee only has two meets under its belt but the two teams have come out with impressive times in the early going. Emily McClellan already owns the 13th-fastest time in the nation in the 200 breast and 16th-fastest time in the 100 breast.

As a team, the Milwaukee women own the fastest times in the Horizon League in all but six events that they have swam in this year. The Panther men also have a handful of league top-times just one week in, recording the top spot thus far in seven swimming events.

LEAGUE NOTICE
Despite only being in the pool twice thus far this season, the Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams are already having tremendous success, earning a combined three Swimmer or Diver of the Week honors.

After week one, Emily McClellan won the women's swimming honor after winning an impressive three events against Wisconsin, just missing a pair of NCAA `B' cut times. Meanwhile, K.J. Heger was named the men's top diver after winning both boards against the Badgers in week one, also recording NCAA Zone scores in both wins.

This week it was Lee Anderson's turn. The sophomore took the top men's diver honor after winning both boards at Grand Valley State

LAST YEAR
The Panthers won 14 events on the men's side last year, leading to a 181.5-106.5 win over the Raiders in Dayton, Ohio. The women's team also put together a strong showing, breaking three pool records en route to a hard-fought 167-133 victory.
