Cedar Falls, Iowa - Seniors Shelby Schaal and Dan Simon each had strong showings in the multi events for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track & field team in the first day of action at the Jack Jennett Invitational hosted by Northern Iowa in the UNI Dome Friday.

Schaal came in third out of 12 competitors in the pentathlon with 3,522 points, finishing in the top four in all five events.

The Waterford, Wis. native came in third in the 800m with a time of 2:28.04 and was also third in the long jump with a leap of 18-0 ¼ (5.49m).

On the men's side, Simon has 2,739 points through four events in the heptathlon, not far behind the leading score of 2,953 points.

Simon already posted two personal records in the multi-event competition. He crossed the finish line at 7.31 seconds in the 60m for fourth. The senior also posted a new PR in shot put with a toss of 33-8 ¾ (10.28m). He also came in second overall in the long jump, clearing 22-0 ¾ (6.72m).

The heptathlon will conclude Saturday morning at 10 a.m., followed by the majority of the rest of the meet.
