Busby Earns Trip To Nationals
May 26, 2012
Austin, Texas - Junior Durell Busby qualified for the NCAA Championships for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee track & field teams in the final day of action at the NCAA West Regional Championships Saturday hosted by the University of Texas. One day after shattering his own school record in the 110m hurdles, Busby continued to lower the UWM top time, crossing the line in a phenomenal 13.67 seconds. He finished fourth in his heat and had the ninth fastest time overall. On Friday, Busby also earned his Olympic trial time for his home nation of Trinidad & Tobago. "This is such a tremendous day for our program," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "Durell is the first hurdler (from UWM) to make it to nationals. It's just such a proud moment. Just to be able to say the word `Olympics' with one of our student-athletes is so unbelievably special. It's just such a great day for Milwaukee." Junior Samia Taylor just missed her second-straight trip to the NCAA Championships in triple jump, finishing her season with a season-best leap of 41-3 3/4 (12.59m) to finish 17th in the west region. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for June 6-9 at historic Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
