Feb. 5, 2013
MILWAUKEE - Garrett Vetesnik of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track & field team has been named the Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
This is the second time in his career the junior has been honored by the league and he becomes the third Panther to win the award this season.
Vetesnik had an outstanding weekend at the storied Meyo Invitational last weekend. The Richland Center, Wis. native posted an indoor personal record in pole vault at the national meet and came close to the school record. His mark of 16 feet, 2 ¾ inches (4.95m) was tied for the top spot at the meet. He took third on attempts and now stands second in school history. That height also is in the top-100 in the nation.
The Panthers are right back at it this weekend as they head to Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State Friday and Saturday.
