Panther Multi-Events Head To Sea Ray Relays
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 8, 2009) - Three multi-event athletes from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams will be competing at the Sea Ray Relays this week in Knoxville, Tenn. Junior Emily Budde from the women's team and freshmen Ben Crogan and Drew Feuk from the men's squad will compete at the meet, which gets underway Wednesday. Budde is coming off a league pentathlon championship during the indoor season. In the heptathlon, she took second at the league meet last season and has a personal-best score of 3,998 points. She had a strong meet last weekend at the Big Blue Classic, running a time of 15.39 in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles and finishing the 200m in 25.82 to take fifth. Crogan was the league runner-up in the heptathlon at the league championships indoors and will be competing in his first collegiate decathlon. He is second in school history in the indoor heptathlon, scoring 4,888 points. In individual events, he broke the school pole vault record twice indoors, clearing 16-3 1/2. He also posted the fifth-best high jump (6-8 1/4). Outdoors, he is already eighth in both events with a best pole vault of 15-1 and a high jump of 6-6 3/4. Feuk scored 4,411 points during the indoor heptathlon season and is third in school history with that score. He scored with a fourth-place finish in the event at the league meet. During the outdoor season, he has posted a pole vault of 13-7 1/4 and has run 16.02 in the 110m hurdles. Like Crogan, he is also competing in his first collegiate decathlon. The remainder of the squad returns to action Friday in a dual meet with crosstown rival Marquette. The meet gets underway at 2 p.m. at Melvin "Bus" Shimek Memorial Track and Field Facility at Valley Fields.
