Current, Former Panthers Shine At Al's Run9/22/2008 - Nate Weiland and Holly Nearman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee track and field program won the men's and women's races at Al's Run Saturday morning in Milwaukee. Weiland, an alum of the track and cross country programs, is currently an assistant with both teams and was the first men's finisher in the field of 1,877. He finished the 8,000-meter course in 24:58, 26 seconds better than second place. Also in the men's race, Aaron Nodolf, another alum, finished fifth and won the men's 30-34 age group. Nearman is still a member of the track and field team and is the reigning Horizon League Outdoor Athlete of the Year. She finished the course in a time of 29:45 to win by nine seconds over second place. She finished 48th overall and was the first of 1,406 women to finish. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field team has announced the signing of 11 incoming freshmen to National Letters of Intent. Head coach Pete Corfeld made the announcement Thursday that Zach Sharkey-Ketner of Milwaukee, Wis., Garrett Vetesnik of Richland Center, Wis., Ben Crogan of Waterford, Wis., Drew Feuk of New Prague, Wis., Jake Spaciel of Waterford, Wis., Ryan Bader of Nekoosa, Wis., Dan Uphoff of New London, Wis., Ryan Baumgartner of Blaine, Minn., Jake Whitewater of La Crosse, Wis., Chris Schuenke of Reedsville, Wis., and Nick Dalske of Coon Rapids, Minn., will join the Panthers beginning with the 2008-09 school year. Senior Justin Bohler and junior Adam Schleis of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee were named to the Horizon League Academic All-League Team for outdoor track and field, the league office announced today. The duo was also named to the league academic team for indoor track, as well as both indoors and outdoors last season. They were also integral in Milwaukee's fifth-straight league outdoor championship and 10th-straight league title overall. Read Full Release |
