Panther Underclassmen Open Season At UIC Invite
CHICAGO, Ill. (Sept. 1, 2007) - Junior Nick Porter was the lone Panther upperclassmen competing and led the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team at the UIC Invitational Saturday afternoon in Chicago. UWM posted a 1-5 record in dual meet scoring, picking up a win over Chicago State (18-41). The Panthers fell to host UIC (16-47), Loyola (18-41), DePaul (15-50), Green Bay (22-33) and St. Xavier (20-36). Porter placed 23rd with a time of 22:26 to pace the squad, consisting of three sophomores and two freshmen. Sophomore Matt Dreifke took 35th in 22:55 and freshman Andrew Fox and sophomore Jason Axt finished together in 38th and 39th place. Fox finished in 23:05 and Axt 23:09. Sophomore Eric Pitt rounded out the scoring runners with a 43rd-place finish and a time of 23:29. Freshman Ben Borton also made his UWM debut, crossing the line in 23:57 for 46th. The Panthers return to action Friday (Sept. 7) at the Crusader Open. Valparaiso, the newest member of the Horizon League, hosts the meet in Valparaiso, Ind.
