PEORIA, Ill. (Oct. 17, 2008) - Freshman Dan Uphoff took 12th to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Bradley Classic Friday evening.

The Panthers tallied 139 points for sixth in the 12-team field, while Iowa State took top honors with the top five finishers and a perfect 15-point score. Other Horizon League schools at the meet included UIC in fourth with 121 points and Green Bay in 11th with 311.

"Both (our men's and women's) teams ran really well," head coach Pete Corfeld said. "Everyone is rolling right now heading into the conference meet (in two weeks). They are all running strong and we can't wait for conference."

Uphoff had been the second Milwaukee runner at each of the first three meets this season, but crossed the line first on the team and 12th overall with a time of 25:33. Junior Ryan Mleziva and freshman Ryan Baumgartner then finished 26th and 27th, just a second apart. Mleziva crossed the line in 26:02, while Baumgartner's time was 26:03.

Freshman Chris Schuenke wasn't far behind with a time of 26:16, good enough for 37th place. Junior Jason Axt rounded out the scorers in 47th place with a time of 26:33.

The Bradley Classic was Milwaukee's final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships, Nov. 1, in Green Bay, Wis.
