Reilly Named League Runner Of The Week
Sept. 10, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Jake Reilly of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team was named the Horizon League Men's Runner of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon. Reilly, running in his first race of the season, led the Panthers by finishing first overall at the Midwest Collegiate Open in Kenosha, Wis. The senior outpaced the field of over 120 runners in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:51.8, a full 30 seconds in front of the next runner. This was the second-straight year Reilly won this race, helping UWM to a fourth-place finish out of 12 teams. "Jake has worked very hard to get to this point," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "I knew he would come out and do well on that course this weekend. He started strong and really cruised to an easy victory. It is a long season and Jake is a senior who knows how to handle it. Getting this result is a good building block toward the league championships next month." This is the second time in Reilly's collegiate career he has been honored by the league. He was recognized last year after winning back-to-back meets early in the season. The Panthers again stay close to home for their third meet in as many weeks, traveling up the road to Mequon, Wis. this Saturday for the Falcon Invitational hosted by Concordia University.
