At The Halfway Point With Coach McManaman

Kevin McManaman is in his second season as an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He came to UWM from Chicago, where he was an assistant at Domincan University in 2009-10 after serving on staff for seven years at Horizon League foe UIC. He joined the Dominican staff just prior to that season after a short stint with Blue Star Recruiting Services as an evaluator.

"We have been thrilled to have Kevin on staff. He was with UIC for seven seasons, so he has experience in the Horizon League and knows the league extremely well and has been a great asset for us," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "He has strong ties and a great reputation in Illinois and Minnesota, in terms of contacts, and is a quality guy. He will be a great role model for our student-athletes."

McManaman had a strong run at UIC, where he was a part of the team's ascension near the top of the league. The team also found unprecedented success, advancing to the post-season for the first time in school history with a WNIT berth in 2006-07. The season prior, the Flames advanced to the league championship game, where they fell to Milwaukee, 71-63. The 2007 team also set a school record with 19 wins and had a school-record 11-game winning streak.

During his tenure, 13 players earned all-league awards, five were named to the league's all-newcomer team and one was named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year.

McManaman is familiar with the city of Milwaukee, having broken into Division I college coaching at Marquette. He joined the Golden Eagle staff in 2001 as a special assistant and was an assistant coach for the 2001-02 season before heading to UIC.

Prior to Marquette, McManaman spent eight years at St. Mary's University in Minnesota in various capacities. In addition to serving as an assistant women's basketball coach for seven seasons, he spent three seasons as an assistant softball coach, five years as assistant director of admissions and a season as assistant facility director and sport science instructor. His time included a 2000 NCAA Division III National Championship with the softball team and a four-month stretch as associate athletic director prior to his leaving.

McManaman earned his bachelor's degree from St. Mary's in 1992 in communication. He earned his master's in sport administration from UW-La Crosse in 1999.

A native of LaGrange, Ill., McManaman and his wife Katie have one son, Dylan.
