MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 9, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball will begin its Horizon League Tournament Championship run Wednesday, March 12, when it hosts Valparaiso in the quarterfinals of the 2008 league tournament.

The Panthers and Crusaders will tip off with the winner advancing to the semifinals against the winner of Wright State and Youngstown State or Detroit.

Tickets go on sale Monday and are available through Ticketmaster.com, by calling Ticketmaster at (414) 276-4545, or at any Milwaukee-area Ticketmaster Outlet. Tickets are available for $8 for general admission and $6 for senior citizens over 60 and children under 17. Students from UWM or any Horizon League institution will be admitted free with a valid university ID.

Milwaukee tied for second in the league standings at 11-7 and hosts the sixth-seeded Crusaders which went 9-9. The Panthers swept their regular season series with a 68-62 win at Valpo Jan. 17 and a 76-70 win at the Klotsche Center Feb. 16.

Green Bay finished its league season 15-1 and, as the top seed, will await the winner of Monday's 8 vs. 9 first round game on Wednesday.

No. 8 Loyola and No.7 UIC will face off in the game one, with the winner facing GB in the semifinals. The other first round game will feature No. 10 Detroit at No. 7 Youngstown State. The winner of that game will head to Dayton to play No. 2 Wright State.

Should the Phoenix win Wednesday, it would host the remainder of the tournament with semifinals scheduled for Friday and the championship game Sunday. The semifinals and championship are scheduled to be played at the highest remaining seed. So, should Green Bay lose, WSU would be next in line to host, followed by Milwaukee.

The Panthers advanced to the league semifinals last season before falling to eventual league champion Green Bay, 84-79, in overtime. Milwaukee is just two years removed from its last league tourney title in 2006. UWM also won the tournament in 2001.
