Aug. 6, 2014
MILWAUKEE - Marquiesha Grant has been signed and will play at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the 2014-15 season, women's basketball head coach Kyle Rechlicz announced today.
"We have finalized our roster for this season with an outstanding young woman by signing Marquiesha Grant to our Panther Basketball Family," Rechlicz said. "Her commitment to excellence on and off the court was noticeable in our first conversation. She has a quickness on defense and can score in a variety of ways. Overall, Quiesha brings immediate experience to our young team and I expect that she will be competing for playing time very early in her career here at Milwaukee."
Grant, who spent the past two seasons at Rockford Valley College in Rockford, Ill., was named a First-Team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American following the 2013-14 campaign after leading her team to the NJCAA Championship for the second straight season.
Grant averaged 18.3 points per game to lead the Golden Eagles and the conference in scoring, while chipping in 4.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
She was also tabbed player of the year in the North Central Community College Conference and for the NJCAA Division III, Region IV.
Grant, a 5'-8" sophomore guard from John Marshall High School in Chicago, was second-team all-conference and was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team as a freshman.
In her two year career at RVC, she scored 1,039 points and won a national championship as a freshman in 2013.
