Horizon League Announces Women's Basketball Preseason Teams

CHICAGO, Ill. - Senior Sami Tucker of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team was named to the Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team in the league's annual preseason polling of league head coaches, sports information directors and media. The two squads and poll were released today in Chicago at the league's media day. The Panthers were picked seventh in the preseason poll. The Horizon League Network is previewing the teams with head coaches and players live all afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m. Check in on HLN from 2:10 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. to see head coach Kyle Rechlicz and junior Angela Rodriguez talk about the upcoming season. Tucker, a starter in all 30 games a season ago, is the team's leading returning scorer (11.6 ppg) and also led UWM in rebounding a year ago (7.3 rpg). Overall, she finished ninth in the Horizon League in rebounds and 15th in scoring. Defending regular season champion Green Bay topped the preseason poll with 25-of-27 possible first-place votes and 241 total points. The Phoenix placed two players on the preseason first team, which was headlined by Wright State's Kim Demmings as preseason player of the year. Detroit was picked second with 210 points (two first-place votes) and Wright State was third with 191 points. Loyola was fourth with 152 points and Cleveland State fifth with 123. UIC was sixth with 90, just ahead of Milwaukee's seventh-place point total of 85. Youngstown State (77) and Valparaiso (46) rounded out the poll.
