Kauffung, Holbert Garner Team's 2012 Goal Of The Year Award
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 4, 2013) - Amy Kauffung and Kelsey Holbert combined on the goal that was selected as the 2012 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team Goal of the Year award. Kauffung scored the goal and was assisted by a pass from Holbert just before halftime against Miami (OH) Aug. 26 and tied the game at 1-1. Holbert fended off a pair of RedHawk defenders at the sideline, then sent a pass into Kauffung in the penalty area. Kauffung settled the ball and slotted a pass off the far post and into the goal.
The goal solicited 286 of the 513 votes cast at uwmpanthers.com The other goals in contention were goals from Vienna Behnke, Krissy Dorre and two from Helen Steinhauser. Behnke's goal was the team's first of the season and came off a quick Steinhauser restart and was also assisted by Kelly Lewers. Dorre's entry was the game-winning goal in the second overtime against Wright State in the league title game and was assisted by Sara Stern. Steinhauser's first goal was a free kick score, also from the Miami game, while her second was a double-overtime strike against Loyola in the regular season. Holbert assisted on that goal, as well.
This is the second year of the team's Goal of the Year. Keara Thompson was the inaugural recipient. |
