Panthers To Gather To Watch NCAA Tournament Pairings
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 9, 2008) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team will gather at Harry's Bar and Grill Monday evening to watch the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament Selection Show, which will air at 7 p.m. on ESPNews. The Panthers earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament Sunday with a 6-2 win over Loyola. The show will announce first round opponents and sites for the 64 teams that have earned berths in the national tournament. Head coach Michael Moynihan and UWM players will be available for interviews following the announcement of the Panthers' first round opponent. Milwaukee have won nine-straight games and a school-record total of 18 games this season (18-2-2). Currently, the Panthers are ranked 19th in the nation in the NSCAA national poll and were 21st in the NCAA's Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). Five players were named to the all-league first team, including freshman Sarah Hagen. Hagen leads the nation with a league and school-record 24 goals this season, including a hat trick in the league championship game. The Panthers have set a number of school records this season in addition to their win total. They have tallied a school-record 64 goals, 67 assists and 195 points. Their winning percentage is guaranteed to be a school record, as will their home winning percentage Hagen's goals and point total (54) have long since been school records, while junior Kate Megna tied a school record with 12 assists this season. UWM is making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, following its first berth in 1997 and back-to-back trips to the tournament in 2001-02 and 2005-06. The Panthers are hoping to host tournament games for the first time in school history. They have previously been sent to Minnesota (1997), Notre Dame (2006) and across town to Marquette three times (2001-02, 2005).
