#16 Panthers Fall In NCAA First Round To Michigan State, 2-111/14/2008 - Laura Heyboer scored two goals to lead Michigan State past the No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team, 2-1, in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament Friday evening at Notre Dame. The Panthers' season ends at 18-3-2, while Michigan State (14-6-3) moves on to play the winner of No. 1 Notre Dame and Toledo Sunday at noon central time. Freshman Sarah Hagen of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshman All-American team, the online publication announced Thursday. Hagen is Milwaukee's first freshman All-American since current seniors Erin Kane and Sarah Teegarden in 2005. Hagen currently leads the nation with a school and league-record 24 goals this season. The 16th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team heads to South Bend, Ind., this weekend to take on Michigan State in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The Panthers and Spartans face off Friday with the winner advancing to Sunday's second round contest against the winner of Notre Dame and Toledo. Milwaukee enters the NCAA Tournament on a nine-game winning streak and sitting at 18-2-2 on the season. The Panthers have been flat-out dominant since suffering their second loss of the season Oct. 3. Since then, UWM has scored 37 goals in the nine games, while yielding just four scores on defense. Milwaukee's last contest was a 6-2 win over Loyola in the league championship game last Sunday. Read Full Release |
