Panthers Wrap Up Olympic Trials
June 30, 2012
Omaha, Neb. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee had three swimmers wrap up their competition at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials this weekend, highlighted by another outstanding finish by sophomore Emily McClellan. On Friday, McClellan finished 24th out of 118 finishers in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:31.40, shaving off nearly a full second from her qualifying time and just missing a spot among the top 16 in the semifinals. Earlier in the week, McClellan finished sixth in the country in the 100m breaststroke, with the top six times earning a spot on the U.S. National Team announced this September. "The whole experience...words can't even describe how this has affected me," McClellan said. "I'm swimming with former Olympians and future Olympians and I am just so honored. I went in there with nothing to lose and really just went from there. It has been such an incredible week and I'm so honored and thankful." On Saturday, senior Jordan Diel took 109th in the 100m butterfly with a time of 55.83. Sophomore Becky Yokosh also swam on Saturday, taking 130th in the 200m backstroke, touching the wall at 2:19.61.
