MILWAUKEE - Junior Becky Yokosh and freshman Nic Halverson have been named Men's and Women's Horizon League Swimmers of the Week, the league office this announced this afternoon. The league honor is the second for Yokosh and the first for both this season.
Yokosh had an incredible weekend, setting two individual pool records and adding a third on a relay in a big win over conference-rival UIC. The Oconomowoc native broke her own pool record set just one week earlier in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.19, two seconds in front of the next finisher. She also broke the Klotsche Natatorium record in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall at 2:03.51, over six seconds in front of second place. Yokosh also swam the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay, lowering the pool record to 1:36.63.
The junior also posted a pair of season-best times one day earlier in a win over Wheaton. In the 200 free, she finished third with a time of 1:58.96. She also posted a season-best time in the 50 free at 55.06.
Halverson also had an impressive weekend, winning three individual events. The freshman took first in both the 500 free (4:42.70) and the 1000 free (9:37.43) against UIC. Both times are tops for the Panthers thus far this season. Halverson also took third in the 200 IM at 1:58.17 only behind two of his senior teammates to help the Panthers to a big win over the Flames.
On Friday, the Kiel native won the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.10 and helped the 400 medley relay to a first-place showing in a win over Wheaton.
Milwaukee returns to the pool again this weekend heading to the Stevens Point Border Battle. The two-day meet gets underway Friday at 6 p.m. with two sessions on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
