The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams wrap up their busy start to the season with a trip to Stevens Point for a two-day meet before getting some much-needed rest. The Panthers will swim against South Dakota, Minnesota State, Northern Michigan and the host Pointers at the annual Stevens Point Border Battle this Friday and Saturday. Friday's action starts at 6 p.m. with Saturday's first session set for 10 a.m. and the second scheduled for 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE MEETS
UWM has historically done well at the Stevens Point Border Battle (formerly called the Stevens Point Invitational), having finished as the top team a combined 11 of 12 times. The Panther men are a perfect six-for-six at the meet, winning last year with 1126.5 points. The women have also won five of their six times against some of the area top schools, coming in as the three-time reigning championships after taking the title a season ago with 1,114 points.

Milwaukee's competition comes into the weekend with a mixed bag of results. Stevens Point is 1-1 on both sides after taking down UW-Eau Claire and falling to St. Cloud State in their season opener two weeks ago. South Dakota's men's and women's teams both have a 1-5 record this season after falling to Green Bay last weekend. Meanwhile the MSU women are 1-0 on the year and the NMU women are 3-0.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL: MEN
Seniors Mike Brady, Sam Niesen and Nathan Welchlin combined to win seven individual events on Senior Day as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team knocked off UIC 170-130 Saturday at the Klotsche Natatorium.

LAST TIME IN THE POOL: WOMEN
Juniors Becky Yokosh and Emily McClellan each broke two pool records and two more pool relay records fell as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team knocked off UIC 167-133 at the Klotsche Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

Yokosh broke both backstroke records, McClellan reset both breaststroke records and the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams also set new Klotsche records during Milwaukee's Senior Day.

LEAGUE NOTICE
After four weeks of action, the Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams are already having tremendous success, earning a combined five Swimmer or Diver of the Week honors.

After week one, Emily McClellan won the women's swimming honor after winning an impressive three events against Wisconsin, just missing a pair of NCAA `B' cut times. Meanwhile, K.J. Heger was named the men's top diver after winning both boards against the Badgers in week one, also recording NCAA Zone scores in both wins.

In week two it was Lee Anderson's turn. The sophomore took the top men's diver honor after winning both boards at Grand Valley State

Then, last week, the Panthers swept the swimmer of the week awards as Becky Yokosh won on the women's side after breaking both backstroke pool records and helping break the Klotsche 200 freestyle relay, as well. Freshman Nic Halverson won on the men's side after taking the top spot in the 500 & 1000 freestyle swims and coming in third in the 200 IM in a win over UIC. Halverson also won the 400 IM against Wheaton on the weekend.

LAST YEAR
The Panther men won nine events on day one and 11 on day two to cruise to their sixth-consecutive Border Battle title. Milwaukee's women's team also took the top spot in 20 events on the weekend to win their third-straight Border Battle.

UP NEXT
UWM is taking a few weeks rest for Thanksgiving before returning to the pool at the end of the month. Milwaukee heads to the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational for a three-day meet Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Iowa City, Iowa.
