MILWAUKEE - Freshman Sarah Wardecke of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team was named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Wardecke won four individual events at the IUPUI Quad meet this past weekend to pace UWM to a perfect 6-0 record over the two days of team duals.

Friday, she won the 50 freestyle (24.68), the 100 freestyle (52.99) and helped the 200 medley relay to a second place showing (1:50.75) with her anchor split of 23.93.

On Saturday, Wardecke again won the sprint events, with a time of 24.66 in the 50, and 53.24 in the 100 free. She also split 53.16 on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay.

The award is the first of her career and the third the team has received this season. Senior Ashley Hall has also won league diver of the week honors on two occasions.

Wardecke already holds top times in the Horizon League in the 50 free, 100 free and the 200 breaststroke this year. She has now won eight of her 12 races, taking second in all four in which she did not record the victory.
