MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee recorded its fifth-straight win with a hard-fought, 4-3 victory over South Dakota Sunday morning at North Shore Elite Sports Club.
UWM (9-7) easily grabbed the doubles point and then claimed three wins in singles play, two of which were in straight sets, to clinch the W.
Milwaukee won the crucial doubles point to start things off. Hayley Marshall and Alysa Straub (8-1) and Christiana Colarossi and Kristin Kurer (8-2) both made quick work of their opponents to give UWM the point.
Then, in singles play, the Panthers battled for three points to seal the match.
For the second-straight day, Colarossi was taken to three sets in the three spot. The junior made quick work in the tiebreaker though, winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.
Straub (6-0, 6-3) and Kurer (6-3, 6-2) both had convincing wins to give the Panthers their fifth-straight win as a team.
Milwaukee continues its home stand with two big conference matches next weekend, starting Saturday when preseason favorite UIC comes to town for a 1 p.m. match.
