CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Maddy Soule advanced to the main draw in singles play while Soule and Christina Colarossi moved into the final 16 of the doubles competition on a productive second day at the ITA Regionals in Champaign, Ill.
Soule and Colarossi teamed up for a pair of impressive wins to move on in the tournament. The duo beat the top doubles group from Wisconsin, 8-4, before knocking off a strong pair from Eastern Michigan, 8-5.
In singles play, Soule claimed a solid 6-1, 6-2 victory over Audrey O'Connor of Illinois to move into the main bracket.
Meanwhile, at the Second Chance Regional in Rockford, Ill., Kristin Kurer advanced in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Maira Rozo of Northern Illinois. Brittany Skemp did fall in another singles match while the doubles tandem of Kurer and Skemp fell to a pair from Michigan State.
"I'm very proud of all of our performers in both Champaign and Rockford today," Milwaukee head coach Sean McInerney said. "It was a really good day and another step in the right direction. It is important for our development that our players to continue to compete well against upper-level programs, and they are certainly doing that this weekend. The matches we have Saturday will be great tests but I think we'll be up to the challenge of competing."
