Colarossi Claims Horizon League Player Of The Week Honors
Feb. 28, 2012
MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman Christina Colarossi has been named the Horizon League Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Colarossi helped Milwaukee to a pair of wins this weekend as the Panthers improved to 7-3 in the spring. She started the weekend with two wins in a league victory over Valparaiso. She won in straight-sets in the third singles spot after teaming with Maddy Soule for a victory in the top doubles spot. Then Saturday, Colarossi and Soule beat Ball State in the top doubles spot, improving to 8-2 as a tandem this spring. In singles play, the freshman captured the match-clinching win, rallying from a set down to win in the number-four slot. "Christina has done such a great job as a freshman," UWM head coach Sean McInerney said. "She is such a hard-working student-athlete who has improved weekly. I am very excited to be a part of her development and am proud of what a good teammate she is. She really played well this week. I know that she has the talent to beat very good players and she proved that this weekend." UWM plays two more matches this weekend, hosting Northern Iowa Friday before traveling to Northern Illinois Sunday.
