Panthers Back To The Road For Two More League Contests

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team heads back to the road this weekend for two more Horizon League matches. The Panthers (4-11, 1-3 Horizon) are scheduled to play at Wright State Friday night before heading to Butler Saturday morning. Friday's match is slated to start at approximately 6 p.m. EDT at the South Regency Tennis Center in Dayton, while Saturday's contest will start at approximately 11 a.m. EDT in Indianapolis. UWM continues to get strong play from a number of individuals. Freshman Brittany Skemp has now won her last three singles matches to move to 8-5 in the spring and 3-1 in league play. Sammi Schoen and Beth Ganser remain next on the victory list with five wins apiece. In doubles play, Ashley Schoneman and Megan Gow have five wins as a tandem, including a pair in league play. Including tournament matches from the fall, Ganser now has 13 overall singles wins and Skemp 12. In doubles play, Schoneman is up to 11 overall wins while Gow, Schoen and Kari Kastenholz have nine apiece. Wright State is 7-7 overall and dropped its only league match to Detroit. Overall, the Raiders have dropped three-straight after a five-match winning streak. Taylor Hines and Amy Nini each have eight dual singles wins while Nini and Amanda Albuquerque have teamed up for 10 doubles wins in dual-match play. Butler is 5-9 overall but has faced a tough non-league slate, including matches against Indiana, Louisville, DePaul and Cincinnati. In league play, the Bulldogs have dropped their only contest, falling to Detroit. Becky Jenkins has seven singles wins in dual-match play while Jenkins and Molly Casperson have teamed up for seven doubles wins.
After this weekend, UWM returns home to face Detroit and Green Bay in its final two league matches of the regular season. The top six league squads then advance to the Horizon League Championships April 23-24. |
