Panthers Wrap Up Fall Schedule With ITA Regional Play

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team will be sending seven players to a pair of regional competitions this weekend. Maddy Soule, Christina Colarossi, Chelsea Bailey, Dana Shannon and Kelly Fritz are headed to the ITA Regional in Champaign, Ill., starting Thursday while Brittany Skemp and Kristin Kurer are off to the Second-Chance Regional in Rockford, Ill., starting Friday. "I am excited for our players to be competing at both regional sites this weekend," Milwaukee head coach Sean McInerney said. "It is a great opportunity to test ourselves against the best players in the region and it will be a positive learning experience. We have had a very solid fall and this is a nice reward for all our hard work thus far." The main ITA Regional is being played at the Atkins Tennis Center at the University of Illinois. Soule will get a bye into the second round of the singles draw while Bailey and Shannon will play first-round matches Thursday morning. Soule will also team up with Colarossi in doubles play while Shannon will team with Fritz. Shannon has a 7-4 mark in singles play this fall while Soule has six singles victories. In doubles play, Soule and Colarossi have led the way with a stellar 10-1 mark, including a championship at the DePaul Invitational.
Meanwhile, the Second-Chance Regional starts at 10 a.m. Friday at 10 a.m. at Boylan High School. Kurer has eight singles wins and four doubles victories this fall, while Skemp has collected five singles wins and five doubles victories. |
