Panthers Post Strong Results In Indianapolis

MILWAUKEE - Lynda Thiel, Nicole Frey, Kalin Konop and Stephanie Kenesie each posted a pair of top-ten finishes Saturday at the Smith Barney Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., to lead the Panther women's track and field team. Thiel was first in the pole vault and second in the high jump, while Frey was ninth overall in the 60m dash and sixth overall in the 200m. Kenesie and Konop, meanwhile, each placed in the top ten in the long jump and the triple jump.

Thiel won the pole vault by clearing 3.50m, and was second in the high jump after clearing 1.68m. Frey was the eighth collegiate finisher in the 60m, posting a time of 8.00, and was the fourth collegiate finisher in the 200m with a time of 25.62. Kenesie was second in the triple jump after a best effort of 11.04m, and finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.61m. Konop also placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.82m and 10th in the long jump after jumping 5.07m.

In other events, Katie Seep, Teresa Braunreiter and Katie Slamka each posted a top-ten finish in the 400m, with Seep finishing seventh, Braunreiter eighth and Slamka 11th. Seep ended up the sixth collegiate finisher with a time of 1:00.07, while Braunreiter was the seventh collegiate finisher in 1:00.31. Slamka was 10th among collegians with a time of 1:01.43.

Christine Wampach was the fourth finisher in the 5000m, finishing in 17:51.78, while Slamka was second in the 60m hurdles in 9.33. Kristy Naef also added a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles for the Panthers, finishing in 9.62.

 

 

The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, when they will compete at the Northern Iowa Classic in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
