Fisher Breaks Own 800m Record At Wilson Invite
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (March 4, 2006) - Senior Tenia Fisher broke her own school record in the 800m with an NCAA Provisional time to lead members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team at the Alex Wilson Invitational, this weekend in South Bend, Ind. The Panthers attended the meet for a last chance qualifier for the NCAA Championships. Fisher finished third in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:07.20. That time is better than both the NCAA Provisional time of 2:09.00 and her own school record in the event of 2:10.05. She has now broken Milwaukee's indoor 400m, 600m and 800m records this season and must wait to hear if she has qualified for the NCAA Championships. Sophomore Joy VanLaanen and junior Timeka Walker also competed at the meet. VanLaanen, an NCAA Provisional qualifier in the pole vault, cleared 11-6 1/2 in the event before suffering an injury and withdrawing. Walker placed seventh in the preliminaries of the 60m with a time of 7.73 and ran 25.48 for eighth in the finals of the 200m.
