RALEIGH, N.C. (March 27, 2009) - Senior Holly Nearman broke her own school 5000m record and qualified for the NCAA Regional meet to lead a strong contingent of distance performances for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team at the Raleigh Relays Friday.

In addition to Nearman's 5000m record, senior Danielle Magargee won her 5000m section and junior Abbie Zaspel cracked UWM's all-time top 10 in her 5000m section. Junior Ryan Mleziva also represented the men's team in the 10,000m, taking 20th.

Nearman crossed the line in 16:42.51 to break the school record she set last year of 16:47.80. Her time also eclipsed the regional-qualifying time of 16:52 in her first meet of the outdoor season. She ran in the 5000m seeded event and was the fifth collegiate finisher and eighth overall.

Magargee's performance came in Section III of the 5000m. She won the section and surpassed her personal-best time by over 20 seconds. She crossed the line first in 17:56.96, 15.33 seconds better than second place.

Zaspel ran in the 5000m Section II in a time of 17:42. The time is a personal-best outdoor mark and cracked Milwaukee's all-time top 10 in 10th.

Mleziva ran a personal-best time of 32:00.83 in the 10,000m to cap the evening. His time was 15th among collegiate runners.

Milwaukee has one more athlete competing in Raleigh, with sophomore Tanaiya Fisher running in the 1500m Section II Saturday. The remainder of the squad is at the Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill. The hammer throw was held Friday, with the remainder of the meet kicking off Saturday morning.
