Panthers Wrap Up Weekend At Poehlein Invite
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (April 1, 2006) - Junior Taryn Cozine was once again the top Panther finisher, taking third in the 400m hurdles, to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team for the second weekend in a row, this time at the Mike Poehlein Invitational, Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. The meet was non-scoring. Cozine improved on her personal-best time from a week ago, running 1:03.65 for third in the event and remaining ninth-best in school history. Two more Panthers finished among the top eight, as junior Amy Sunby was seventh in 1:07.09 and senior Andrea Ziebell eighth in 1:07.20. Senior Katie Slamka also turned in a fourth-place performance, while freshman Jennin Saarinen was sixth in a pair of events. In the javelin, Slamka threw a PR with a distance of 122-10, while Saarinen threw 113-2 for sixth. In the long jump, Saarinen leapt into UWM's all-time top-10 list with a jump of 18-6, finishing sixth in the event and tying for 10th in school history. Freshman Kory Olson tied for eighth in the long jump, clearing 17-4. Another freshman, Jes Weyandt, tied for fifth in the pole vault with a height of 11-5 3/4, which is tied for third all-time. Milwaukee also had a strong showing in the 400m, as three Panthers were among the first nine finishers. Sophomore Shannon Buttchen led the way in fifth with a time of 1:00.10, while freshman LeaDrean Jordan was seventh in 1:00.35 and junior Timeka Walker ninth in 1:03.48 The Panthers return to action next weekend at the UWM/Wisconsin Lutheran Classic on Saturday. UWM's only home meet of the outdoor season, the meet will be held in nearby Wauwatosa.
