Panthers Finish Weekend On High Note

CHARLESTON, Ill. (April 4, 2009) - Senior Holly Nearman won the 1500m and two more Panthers took second in their respective events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team on the final day of the Big Blue Classic Saturday.

Junior Reigna Pierce also wrapped up the team's inclusion at the Florida Relays, competing in the triple jump. She took 13th with a jump of 38-6 1/4.

Nearman ran a time of 4:37.64 in winning the 1500m. She was joined in the top five by senior Danielle Magargee, who crossed the line fifth in 4:44.83. Junior Erin Havener in the pole vault and freshman Erika Hanson in the 800m posted runner-up finishes. Havener cleared 12-1 1/2 for runner-up honors, while Hanson ran a time of 2:16.45, just 0.06 seconds out of first place.

Milwaukee posted top-five finishes in six other events. Junior Emily Budde accounted for two of those finishes, taking fifth in both the 100m hurdles and 200m. She finished the hurdles event in 15.42 and ran 25.82 in the 200m. Sophomore Angie Kaufmann, who was seventh in the 200m (26.10), took fifth in the 400m with a time of 58.47.

Sophomore Chelsea Von Ruden placed third in the high jump, while the 4x400m relay was also third. Von Ruden cleared 5-5 and the relay combined on a time of 4:02.02. Freshman Katie Duchow rounded out the top-five finishers with a fifth-place showing in the 100m. She finished that event in 12.59.

The Panthers return to action next weekend, traveling across town for a dual meet with Marquette Friday (April 10).
