Feuk Leads Panthers On Final Day Of Sea Ray Multi-Events
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 9, 2009) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Sea Ray Relays Thursday afternoon. Milwaukee had sent three multi-event athletes to the meet. Freshman Drew Feuk took fourth in the men's decathlon and freshman Ben Crogan placed 10th, while junior Emily Budde placed ninth in the women's heptathlon. "Our athletes did a good job of overcoming adversities this week," UWM associate head coach Jason Francis said. "They each had events that didn't go as planned, but they put it behind them, overcame it and finished strong. For the guys, it was their first decathlon competition, so we'll need to get a few under their belts, but Drew finished fourth and at a big meet." Feuk scored 5,756 points, thanks to strong second-day performances in the 110m hurdles and the pole vault. He ran a time of 16.21 in the hurdles and cleared 13-7 1/4 in the pole vault for a combined 1,368 points over the two events. Crogan posted a career-best time in the 110m hurdles, finishing in 15.75. But, he failed to clear a height in the pole vault and finished the competition with 4,199 points. Budde finished with 3,954 points, missing her personal best by just 44 points. The meet ran the long jump, javelin and 800m on the second day. Her best score came in the long jump, where she leapt 17-4 3/4 for 643 points. The remainder of the squad is in action Friday in a dual meet with crosstown rival Marquette. The meet gets underway at 2 p.m. at Melvin "Bus" Shimek Memorial Track and Field Facility at Valley Fields
