Sigg, Alsum Earn Day One Awards At League Meet
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 6, 2011) - Elise Sigg and Brittany Alsum posted runner-up finishes to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team on the first day of the Horizon league Championships. The Panthers have 18 points after two events, trailing only Youngstown State with 20. Host Butler is third with 12 points, Loyola has eight points and Wright State has four. The championship meet continues Saturday and wraps up Sunday. UWM is the defending league champion. Sigg took second in the 10,000m, crossing the line in 36:22.95 and earning all-league second-team honors. Alsum was one of two Milwaukee scorers in the discus throw, earning her first career all-league honor with a runner-up finish. She threw a personal-best 147-10 in the event. Nancy Harmon took fifth in the event, also PRing with a throw of 137-6. While Alsum is already second in school history in the event, Harmon moved up to fourth all-time. The only other events run on Friday was the first half of the heptathlon. Shelby Schaal leads the way with 2,939 points, thanks to a score of 895 points the the 100m hurdles. She ran 14.60 in the event. Laura Hamel sits fourth in the event at the midway point.
