DES MOINES, Iowa. (June 10, 2011) - Samia Taylor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team closed out her 2011 outdoor season with an 18th-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships Friday evening at Drake University.

As a competitor at the national meet, Taylor earned All-America Honorable Mention honors, making her the team's first NCAA Division I All-American. Overall, she is the 59th All-American in school history and first in the triple jump.

"This has been a really good experience for Samia to get to this stage and face this competition (as a sophomore)," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "We haven't had someone that young get to nationals before, so that's also good. She competed well and put out a great effort. I'm really proud of her and what (associate head coach) Jason (Francis) for what he has done for her and our jump program. It's positive stuff. She's young and I'm positive she'll do well in the future with the experience."

Friday, she leapt 40-11 for ninth in her heat and 18th overall. She was just 4 1/4 inches away from earning All-America Second-Team honors for a top-16 finish.
