MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 23, 2009) - Junior Jamie Woods of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team was named the Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 19, the league office announced.

The award is the first of Woods' career and comes after the Panthers' first weekend of competition.

Woods led the Panthers at the Badger Track Classic in Madison, Wis., winning the shot put. She threw a career-best 42-9 in the event, moving herself up to fifth in school history in the event. Woods also competed in the weight throw and placed eighth with a toss of 49-0 3/4.

UWM returns to action, and Madison, next weekend for the Wisconsin Elite Invitational Jan. 30.
